The founders of two of the UK’s leading P2P lending websites have received a place on the New Year’s Honors list.
The New Year’s Honors list names new members of orders of chivalry every year. The 2016 list featured five awards for services to financial services, two of them going to Samir Desai, CEO of Funding Circle and Giles Andrews, Executive Chairman of Zopa. The pair have been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) and an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) respectively; a CBE being one step below a knighthood.

Both recipients commended their teams upon receiving their awards and stated some rather impressive facts and figures regarding their companies. Desai praised his team, “who have helped originate £1.25 billion of loans… creating over 50,000 new jobs globally”, while Andrews gushed that “this award is a recognition of everything the Zopa team has achieved in the last ten years… Zopa has already helped over 200,000 people get that better value for their money”.
This great news is indicative of the extent to which the alternative financial industry now flourishes. In the past, the honors lists have normally featured high street banks, which the 2016 edition lacks. More and more businesses are seeing the many benefits of P2P lending every day, and with the number of P2P lenders increasing by the week, CompareLend.com can help you to find the best provider for you, based on your individual needs.
